Alvin Antony

Alvin passed away on Friday, January 12th 2024.  He was born in Norfolk VA on August 27, 1931 however he was raised in Romania until his teen years. After returning to the United States Al found his aspiration and attended a trade school to become a barber. Within a few years he opened his own barber shop, eventually expanding to owning multiple barber shops around the Northeast Philadelphia and surrounding suburbs. Al met his love, Marie, at a church social event. That encounter led to a 52 year marriage. Al was a devoted father supporting his son and stepsons in any endeavor they pursued. He loved to ski and enjoyed many sports in general. He never missed his son’s baseball, basketball, soccer or football games. Al also loved to sing. He was part of a Romanian vocal troupe in his 20’s, however he eventually applied his talent to the Church and was a passionate member of his Church choir. Al was deeply religious and a devoted member of the Church, becoming a Church board trustee, and ultimately becoming an emeritus trustee. Al never believed in slowing down and as he grew older he continued to cut hair long after his “retirement” and selling his barber shop. He cherished his family and relished in watching his grandchildren grow, who will eternally refer to him as “Pop-Pop”.

He is survived by his beloved wife Marie (nee Vreto).  Loving father of Peter (Jenna) Antony and James and Stephen Karafelli.  Dearest Pop Pop of Caroline Marie, Peter Paul and Abigail Diana Antony.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Monday, January 22nd from 9 to 10am at SS. Peter and Paul Albanian Orthodox Church, 9230 Old Bustleton Avenue, Philadelphia PA 19115.  Funeral Service will begin at 10am.  Entombment will follow at Lawnview Cemetery.
